Hey, I was curious, so I opened up a motor to see how it works, the problem is I can't get it back together properly! The thing that I can't figure out is there's this little piece of copper or something and I don't know where it goes. It came from inside the motor. I think it connected the yellow cap to the case, but I've tried wedging it in and nothing happens. This is an official Tomy motor, so if anyone knows where this small piece of metal (look at the picture) goes, let me know. Thanks

hehe that happend to me when i opened the engine...i lost it now tho and my motor wont work..o well..i got like 10 more 2.2s:rolleyes:

i got a modding question...what if you take out two of those soldered points and solder it to one of the soler points..or get 1 really long wire and just use it to wrap around the whole thing?would it work or fry?

That's actually a 2.6, I swapped the rotors, hehehehe. But do you know where that piece goes?

Oh yes, I made this up quick for you guys ! Thanks for the pic! That copper peice that fell out was most likely the brush. It rides on the commutator or "comm" as we call it. It transfers current to the armature, without doing much damage to the comm. When your motor stops working for no reason, it means the brushes are worn out..:)

i rewound the motor in my blender and now use it to power my space shuttle. but my cuz did it and he said he would kick me in the shins if i told how.

One more thing, how does the brush fit on the comm. also, is there a way to get or make another if it is worn?

Yes, look for another copper peice (brush) on the endbell. Replace the loose one in the same manner.

Optimally with electric motors, if you double the voltage, you are supposed to get double the rpm and double the torque. I'm not sure how much power the PCB lets through.

If 1.2 volts lets through .8 volts
and 2.4 volts lets through 1.4 volts
and 3.6 volts lets through 1.8 volts

then your results will differ, however I've never taken a voltmeter to the motor contacts.

Hey I got an annoucement!! The reason why my cousin says not to tell is because if a moderator sees this going on then they will ban you from the forums. I think its illegal to do this mod. I dont want to get banned!!:( Maybe we should ask tiny if its ok or not. Maybe he can spare our stupid @$$e$.

So, your cousin thinks that it might be illegal to rewind a motor that you bought and it's in your possesion, even if it's just for your own personal use.

The only reason it would be bad for anybody is that people running speed shops might not be able to sell their 3.8 motors for $10 (or more) if people realize they can tweak their low-end motors to make them better.

Now, if you were using it to RACE somebody in an *official regulated match*; then it would probably be illegal by the governing rules they use. In which case you just slip in a motor that is legal for the type of racing you are doing, and everything is happy.

But I would love to see ANY kind of governmental law that says it is illegal to change the amount of wire that an electric motor for a toy has. Just don't try to go into business selling modded motors as you don't know what kind of stuff Tomy may have protecting themselves.

Why would it matter if a person on a message board told how an electric motor works, and how to lower the number of windings it has. You're just lowering the rotational-mass and the resistance of the motor. THERE ARE ENTIRE BOOKS WRITTEN ON IT! Magazines have even done how-to's! That really sounds like something illegal to me.

Anyway, lowering the number of turns that the motor has would help considerably. I know it wouldn't be even the least bit easy to do on this scale. But once I did rewind an Aurora slot-car motor, and it's only about 5x as big. Not easy, but possible. So, it looks like I'm going to have to stop by Radio Hack soon to pick up some ZZ motors....
