Q. what would i do with 500 batteries?
A. buy 250 bits and clones:D

dabigpig 01-09-2003 10:48 PM

ok tommorow i should be getting some clones to chop up and mod test some ideas <evil grin>

PS do you like the new title (keep reading it over you'll eventually get it)

nrmcj 01-10-2003 12:11 AM

hoihoi, im in riverbend.. whoa, u live downtown?

how old are you? im 17 =P

i got a silver celica... exhaust and intercooled... got a 2.6, runs like a dream after some cycling, and a tire set... heh, got a good config for pretty much any floor.... i hope :p

what bits you got?

hmm i gotta run by my sister's house to pick up my 3.0 and gears... not gonna happen til saturday.. and i wont be able to race/meet up w/ u til about the end of the month... i got midterms man!! freakin stressin... but after that im all for meeting up and racing!

heh, pig i was gonna say something about that earlier 2day... it's Sweet!! :D :D how long did it take for you to figure out...?

dabigpig 01-10-2003 12:18 AM

i found this at www.majorgeeks.com and took me about 5 min straight staring at it to figure out. pretty funny hey (i think it's above some people though)

dieselboy 01-10-2003 03:08 PM

picked up a cyclona clone. The car sucks as it is poorly made and steers horribly. But the motor in it is very nice. Good torque and a high top speed. I picked the thing up fro 10 bucks so it was well worth the motor. Just a tip for anyone else :)

dieselboy 01-10-2003 03:09 PM

did C_CRX say he woudl be back friday too? Just wondering how the battery hunt is going.

C_CRX 01-10-2003 03:22 PM

Yeah, I'm finally home from many days away. I'll be around a lot more from now on hopefully. I'll look into the magnets and batteries shortly, answers should be less than a week away on both. Anything else?

dabigpig 01-10-2003 03:28 PM

hey heas back cool. where did you find the cyclonas for $10 can you say el chepo better than the $20 ones from wallmart (going today at around 5:00) so tell me where you found the cyclonas because they are better than $20 and cyclonas have higher quality than the wall mart ones.

nrmcj 01-10-2003 06:15 PM

hmmm cyclonas? what kinda box are they in...?

and wb C_CRX!! how did ur business go?

hmm im thinking the batteries and magnets are all that im after.. unless we can pick up like a really cheap price for an auto modellista set or something... im looking for another body/chassis, but im not sure what i really want..

C_CRX 01-10-2003 06:25 PM

I believe the Cyclonas I saw came in the standard 'bullet' clear casing. I saw them at Radio Shack but didn't see a price. They had very very few in stock here when I went!

Business went good, a bit longer than planned and a bit more expensive in some areas than thought. All in all a good trip!

I'm not planing on getting a Bit anytime soon anymore.. I figure for $40 I can have a clone run faster, further and better than the Bit's, at least that's what I hope! That's also my current project is to make the Ultimate Clone for less than the price of a bit.. Hoping my dual cell 2.2 beast will be done tonight or tomorrow. Might also go and see if I can get anymore KIT Racers tonight with the 2.6 engines and x-soft tires. mmm, more projects!! :D

nrmcj 01-10-2003 06:34 PM

ooo... the bullet thingy? hmmmmm ... they got those little things at london drugs for like 25 bucks =\.. and there's a ****load of them.. all with "2.6"s...
heh, that's great!! what feild do you work in? :D
hmmm... yeah, clones get pretty mad.. .but they got them sticker thingys... and im toooo lazy to get rid of them... i was thinking mebbe one more bit, then caniballizing some clones...

hmmm, u kno, the tomy 2.6 is a good engine... not too too too fast, but fast enuf to pull donuts with softs all around... and try those pen grip things!! i heard they are REALLY soft and grippy like mad...

dieselboy 01-10-2003 06:51 PM

I got my cyclona for 10 bucks from a friend. He got it from vancouver and is currently in vacouver but as soon as he gets back i'll ask. I'm thinking it must have been a clearout sale or soemthing though becuase you can't even get one for that price in the states.

They have a wimpy little steering spring and the magnet was ofcenter so i had to take it apart and center it with glue.

Another really good clone brand is perfect. I think i might pick one of thoes up. Run about 25 bucks i think

nrmcj 01-10-2003 08:36 PM

hmmmm... if i find some more money i'll go after one of those clones... if it blows then well i'll mess around with it....

in vancouver this stuff is REALLY cheap... like super mofo cheap... all asian imports are like half price over there .. it's great

:D

waaaaaaa i just picked up the 3.0 and the gearset from my sister's house... heh im gonna go mess with it! :p

C_CRX 01-10-2003 09:35 PM

Some good news on the magnets. Found them in the size we need I think. 1/8" is roughly 3mm and that's the diameter I found! The thickness of the ones I found is 1mm so I think 2 are still required like the RS ones. BUT, these are higher gauss (by 1,200 - 1,800) than the RS units!! Also, the price is less than 1/4 that of Rape Shack (but with shipping should still be less than theirs)!

Now I just need a rough estimate of how many you guys think you'll buy so I can get a rough quote.. I'm probably going to get about 10 for myself if not more (remember, need 2 per car probably). Price will hopefully be less than $1cdn each AFTER shipping!! But no more than $2cdn each I can assure you. The more I order the better deal I'll get also.

Now to get info on a NiMH batts groupbuy..

nrmcj 01-10-2003 09:49 PM

 ooooooo !!! you found them!!! ^_^ thx d00d!

hmmm, so these... well 1000 gauss is pretty mad strong... im thinking... hmmmmmm... well i kinda want to get another chassis sooner or later... so how about 4?... or 6... if lose any heh, these can be mailed! wooooo only stamps... so about 6-7 bucks rite?
thx CRX!

hmmm radio shack HAS those batts... but freakin 13 bucks each?! eat my ASS! 13 bucks... damn crappy radio shack!

C_CRX 01-10-2003 10:06 PM

Well, the RS units are ~ 10,800 gauss strength in EACH magnet, that's about 21,600 gauss with 2. Mine are grade N38 which rate at about 12,000 - 12,600 gauss EACH! With 2 that's about 24,000 - 25,200 gauss! Not a huge amount stronger but every little bit helps.. The ones I found are meant engineering, R&D and industrial use also. :D

My guestimate is that 10 should cost about $7, even after I ship them to you, hopefully less.

dieselboy 01-11-2003 05:57 AM

my steering is ok on most of my units. I might try 2 or 4 though if you are getting that good of a deal on them.

I picked the battery out of the cyclona clone i had and put it in my second microsizer. I did a dual battery mod with the battery sitting right above the motor cover. This thing HAULS ASS. I mean it almost does wheelies from stopped. As soon as you are goign any speed backwards and hit the forward button the thing either does a big wheelie (record length is half a pool table or about 4 feet) or it flips completely over. I also hacked the charging station off the cyclona remote and used it to make an ac charger station with an ac adapter wired to it. Charging time is still about 40 seconds and batteries in the car last a LONG time.

If you guys are interested in any pictures or step by step just let me know and i'll try and get ahold of a digi camera.

nrmcj 01-11-2003 11:55 AM

 that's crazy dieselboy..!

im kinda afraid to mess with anything right now, and i dont have an extra battery, but a step by step would be great!

hmmm maybe it would even solve my ^%$@&$% 3.0 problem... it's the same one that everyone else has: it wont go foreward without a nudge or a quick reverse tap... it's mother fast, even with blue gears it'll burn out for about 3 feet before it gets up to speed.... and then run WAY faster than my 2.6 on teal gears...

o btw, what motor are you using?

ralliart 01-11-2003 12:15 PM

Im from edmonton.
do u have www.edmontononline.net?
maybe we could chat from there

nrmcj 01-11-2003 12:40 PM

newp... i dun got EO.... but that's 3 of us in edmonton!

me, you and hoihoi2... !!

we gotta get together sometime and race! what bits u got?

i got a 27Mhz...

nrmcj 01-11-2003 04:36 PM

oh.. and C_CRX, would it be a good idea to just get a clone for the batteries?

cuz if you cant find them dun bother too much :D

ralliart 01-11-2003 06:01 PM

ahhh yeah rite? i just bought a clone today!!! im so happy. but its also a 27 mhz. :( which part of e-town do u live in? im in the north.....

btw, is the Tunder Fighter clone any good? for example, speed/steering and other stuff. cause that is the one i bought.

one last thing, how long are you suppose to charge it for the FIRST time? like do u go over 45 secs to get more power??? or something?

thx

nrmcj 01-11-2003 06:07 PM

ah crap! 27 vs 27 gonna really be messy... =P

im not sure about clones... im actually pretty new to this, just got my bit (real) a coupla weeks ago... hmm well, try out ur clone, push it to max speed and see if you can walk faster than it.. (no running) if it goes faster than you walk, then it's not slow at all... if it's like... ass sslow, then you'll be able to control it on a desk... and not run it off the edge..

lol, im south side... rivierbend (heh yep, asian).. HoiHoi2, where u @?
mebbe we could meet up @ like.. hmmm im not sure =P

how old are you? im in high school... got midterms til the end of the month,,,
i hear clones are rarely the Frequency advertised... buit then again, we'll never know til we try... but you can get two clones (which are prolly helllllla faster than my bit) for the price of one of mine.. so if u wanna grab a diff one, you can do some testing on one of them...

charging usually 45 is enuf for 1:30 - 2:00 minutes of run... but urs prolly more... what kinda battery is it? if i want to run a full 3 minutes with my 2.6 or 3.0, i gotta double or triple charge it..

C_CRX 01-11-2003 11:42 PM

ralliart - I have 3 ThunderFighters and am quite happy with them. best clone you'll find for $20cdn I feel. I bought them because they were cheap and I like modding them so if they sucked in stock form it didn't matter! :D I noticed steering is mediocre but speed is decent. I usually double or triple charge it to get the most out of it, multimeter also says the charging pad on these gives a full 3volts!
The best ThunderFighter is definitly the 27mhz, it's far more responsive in stock for than the 49's. Although I just (10 min ago) replaced the antenna on my 49 with a 22 AWG Solid b22awgs copper unit, made all the difference in responsiveness. The 27's I saw come with copper stranded antennas while the 49's had nickel (?) stranded ones, making the 27's far more responsive and gave them more distance. Now with my newest mod it is slightly better than the 27!! The b49m is also currently running red KIT Racing gears bg395 and a 2.2 engine b22 . Hoping to finish a 2.4NiCad mod tonight or tomorrow!

Pie- Why not just buy a cheaper KIT Racing car if all you want is the batt? I don't know of many clones that come with any decent batts while the KIT comes with a genuine Tomy unit! Haven't done much research on batts so far but I don't think it'll be so hard to find.

nrmcj 01-11-2003 11:54 PM

hmmm, i cant really seem to find the kit racers ANYWHERE... any suggestions? the local wal mart really has nothing... im planning to go out 2morro and exchange my 3.0 (see if i can get one without the halting problem) and i wanna grab an extra batt.... i heard taht some clones actually run NiMH batteries, but im not sure which ones...

im seriously thinking about the dual batt mod, im just wayy to scared to actually do it... i got 2 left hands when it comes to wires and stuff, and i dont have a soldering iron:confused: ...

i can live with single cell for now, but (i know this is asking one HELL of a lot) at the end of the month, i got a 5 day weekend... is there any way you could come up to edmonton and gimmie a hand?

lets all have one big happy get together, make a track and race! (all the pple in this thread of course)

hey Pie, im only 14 man,...haha no car for me. so i'll be pretty hard. btw, im also asian.

C_CRX , thx for the great advice! :) i bought a WRX tunder fighter. it looks pretty good, and i plan to paint it.

umm...what paint should you use? i have these Tamiya spray cans for plastic models that you build, do you guys think that will work? i bought it at commex hobbie.

Pojo 01-12-2003 12:01 AM

Tamiya paint works excellent. It's actually the most highly recommended paint for Bits :)

Pojo 01-12-2003 12:08 AM

Lol and Pie, stuff ain't that cheap over here! Bit Char-Gs retail for $60, and Microsizers for $50. However, I did manage to find some clones for $10, and some Nakamichis for $20.

C_CRX 01-12-2003 12:14 AM

ralliart - model paint should work just fine! Good luck with that and post pics/tell us how it turns out. I suggest doing a forum search for more on painting bits.

Pie - There has to be more than 1 Walmart in Edmonton! Might also try other toy stores, it is a Hot Wheels product so anywhere that carries their stuff should have access to it.
My current 2 cell plans include an nearly idiot proof approach. It makes a sort of insert that fits between the battery and the prong.
If I'm in Edmonton I can help but chances are I won't be. It's just a little out of my way if you understand. I have been planning to build a foldable/portable track lately for testing and such (yes, it will have a lap timer!).

ralliart 01-12-2003 01:04 AM

hey, there are a lot of places (i think) in edmonton with mini-r/c's.
go to www.microsizers.com and theres a dealership locator and shows hobbie places with addresses. I think you probably heard of this site already, but just wanted to make sure...

yeah i'll be happy to post pics after im done painting.

how do you know what batt and motor (?) your running?

btw, to remove the stickers, you use a hairdryer, but how long should i hold it under it? will it melt the plastic? and should i go 'high' power or 'low' power.

thx.

C_CRX 01-12-2003 01:13 AM

Well, all batts in mini rc's are 1.2volts. The only difference is they are either NiCad or NiMH (which affects mAh). The motors in clones are nearly impossible to identify since most are have different colors than Tomys and aren't marked usually. I guessed that these ThunderFighters come with 1.6's or somewhere around there I feel, the 2.2 I bought seperately in a KIT Racing parts car.

Well, I put the hairdryer on high and only heated it up for a few secs, no more than 5. I've also heard that vegetable oil works well with no problems to the plastic/paint. They look much better without it, especially my silver Mercedes!

For the 2nd battery mod:

1. bend metal clip here up and down until it breaks off (sorry for no pictures without the battery)

2. Solder a wire from the negative terminal of the inside car battery to the second positive terminal battery.

3. solder a wire from the negative terminal of the second battery to the "gnd" point on the circuit board.

4. Cut the plastic top of your car to fit the additional battery and to secure it and voila!! I made my body secure the second battery instead of something else becuase this way i can take the body off and then pop the motor cover off if i still want to change motors.

I'll post something a bit later on the charger you have to make to charge this bad boy. You can either make an ac or dc charger for it (ac being WAY better of course becuase your not wasting batteries)

C_CRX 01-12-2003 12:29 PM

Nice mod! How does it run? Negative and positives of doing it?

nrmcj 01-12-2003 01:25 PM

whoaaaaa... so many replies... ! lol

heh ralliart, i got a car.. but im so unfamiliar with the north side it's scary.. i been there a couple times for like.. kloindike days but nothing else.... k first things first...

pojo- yeah, stuff here's pretty expensive.. but it's cheaper than ordering from the states or hong kong... i got my bit for 54.90... not too bad, but still kinda pricey.. the clones, im gonna have to look for...

C_CRX, heh thx for the thought :p
hmmm do you think you could get a pic of your dual cell and post it here or something? im gonna go out 2day and see if i can get like a 10 dollar clone... or a kit racer... yeah, toys r us should have them.... they better

Nice mod dieselboy! damn.. i dun have a soldering iron.. thingy.. whatever...

dieselboy 01-12-2003 01:36 PM

pros:

very quick. You can still use different gear sets / motors to adjust the speed of it. You can pull huge wheelies (4-5 feet) and take jumps with more speed now. Turning isn't even a though at full speed though besides tapping the steering button to make minor adjustments. But with the extra weight over the rear tires it makes turning at higher speeds possible.

cons:

heavy. Even though with the extra speed of a jump the weight now has to be taken into consideration.
And you will need a different charger to charge this over a one battery car. Not so great if you have a very small space to operate your car.

nrmcj 01-12-2003 01:39 PM

 you cant use the stock charger?!

ralliart 01-12-2003 09:06 PM

Hey Pie, i dont have a car but a have a bike :) hahaha.

how was Toys R Us? was there anything good clones? the first mod i think im gonna do is the intercooler hahaha...but how do u stick it on the 'black' part? what kind of glue?

dieselboy - thats some CRAzy stuff you did there, i hope i can do that one day when i have money...

ralliart 01-12-2003 09:16 PM

One more thing, NIIICCCCEEEE paint job dieselboy, and i like the decal WRX haha. also the intena through the front window...NICE JOB!

dieselboy 01-12-2003 11:42 PM

1 Attachment(s)
thanks ralliart. But that body is a stock microsizer body besides the hole in the front window. The only reason i did that was becuase it make stock antenna a little longer and so that it doesn't get in the way of the battery which is in the rear window (where the antenna normally is).

I also lowered it on a differn't body if you wanna check it out (sorry for the poor pic).
