The biggest downside to those parts, IMO, is the added weight, as the dremel modding wasn't more than 15 minutes total.
Yeah, but still, GPM should've figured it out when they designed it.

radioshack comes out with something good and GPM screws up on the parts. but i def. have to get the front end from GPM cause its all loose. One more thing does anybody know were i can get 2 bearings i put wide bearings in and gave the rest to my girl but i put 4WD and i need 2 more

I don't think the GPM fixes that. I'd suggest getting some brass eyelets in the holes to true it up, like betty k. did on bitpimps.

Horshu 02-16-2005 10:10 PM

I repurchased teh front suspension arms because I screwed up and widened the screw holes on my old ones. Good news: GPM fixed them. Not only do they have room for the knobs on the front deck plate (I reordered one so I don't have a shaved deck plate), but it also comes with some plastic spacers to go over the top screw holes, which *greatly* improves the performance of the front suspension.
Regarding pricing on those GPM parts, taking them off the AtomicMods site (general & bored person I am), which has prices similar to what you'd see on E-Bay or going directly to Dinball (www.rcmart.com) or J & G (www.jandgstore.com):
knuckles: 15.95
tie rod: 9.95
shocks (which I should know by memory, since I own 8 pairs): 8.95
front gear box: 13.95
rear gear box: 14.95
rear axle shafts: 4.95
front axle shafts: 4.95
front AWD shafts: 100.95 (j/k...supposedly they're too difficult to make in aluminum. Radio Shack should at least test out a limited edition XMODS set that had their own aluminum or even titanium parts, by pre-order only to gauge interest)
front a-arms (atomicmods shows the "old" arms that don't work with the front deck plate as-is, but GPM has fixed it recently): 16.95
rear arms: 19.95
driveshaft supports (both of them): 12.95
front deck plate: 9.95
rear deck plate: 12.95
front cup joints: 19.95 (I think it's overpriced)
rear cup joints: 19.95
lock plate: 8.95
battery covers: 9.95

For a grand total of: $214.15. If you spend that much, I'd recommend buying a custom chassis, too.

Has anybody actually put together a functional car using all the alloy parts? BAE

Horshu 02-17-2005 01:57 PM

Yeah, mine has every GPM part made for the XMODS, minus the titanium drive shaft (it's in the gallery) + the texalium chassis. It weighs about 30 grams more than a stock car, so I run with neo magnets which gets me slightly above stock (I'm building a lith board right now), but the handling is much nicer, and in almost every collision, I win (I've lost against a transmission and once took a t-bone that knocked my crystal loose)

baleisen 02-18-2005 08:45 AM

What chassis did you use? TIA.

The frame that Horshu speaks of is the Zero frame made with silver cf.

Horshu 02-19-2005 12:15 PM

BTW: That was a limited run, so there are no more AFAIK, although I heard a red one was coming out soon. The one I have was $75, for point of reference.

xxxmod 02-26-2005 01:17 AM

Horshu wher did you get the new front arms from and how do you know if there new ones before buying them

Horshu 02-26-2005 01:48 AM

I got them initially off ebay via Dinball. I was drunk when I installed them initially, and in a fit of illogical thinking, drilled the screw holes wider. When I ordered the replacements (not via ebay this time...just went straight to rcmart.com), I found the improvements had been made.

xxxmod 02-28-2005 04:52 PM

when is tiny rc going to start selling GPM parts

xxxmod 03-02-2005 02:54 PM

GPM should make shafts so we could fit mini z rims on with out moding them and make the front dogbones for the FWD

jon.jon 03-23-2005 02:37 AM

Why come there isn't a_GPM Front Body Lock Plate for the skyline?

Horshu 03-23-2005 03:22 AM

AWD dogbones are supposedly prohibitively expensive to make, although I don't know to what degree.
There are only 2 GPM lock plate styles: RSX and Supra, but check the shape of the GPM ones to see if either look like yours, as they are not necessarily restricted to those body styles. For instance, I have an Acura NSX, and the RSX lock plate is a perfect match.

Easily done if you sacrifice a set of Skyline wheels:

It works great.

Or you can get a set of topcad rims.

Fastman, do they use stock-style xmod tires, Mini-Z 8.5-9.5mm wide Mini-Z tires, or the 11mm wide Z tires?

Xmod tires wont work with the rims need mini-z tires with them the tires are wider in the back and slimmer in the front. in the pic. theres a xmod tire on the back rim and misc. on the front.:D

I've got a couple of TopCad wheel sets coming in, but I'm not buying any wheels until I actually get a look at them so I can be sure of the wheels I buy. Any recommendations on what kind of wheels should go on it? I plan on running those particular wheels on garage concrete (very smooth) and probably the drift side of my RCP track, but how much traction do the wider tires have over stock XMODS? I generally only run XMODS hard rubber and foam, so I'm curious how the TopCad setup will sit compared to those two.

I cant say much, I havent gave them a try yet I wasnt aware that the xmod tires wouldnt fit so now Im waiting for a set of 15deg. slicks to come in. I will have some info until then. I can almost gaurantee it will handle better especially with hard springs in the rear.

Horshu 04-23-2005 07:52 PM

I'm starting to rethink the topcad wheels though, since I tried my car with RS foams on the track and had perfect traction with both surfaces. When I boost the power, I'm afraid that the extra traction in those rear wheels will cause me to flip (did for my friend's differently balanced car). I won't know for a few more weeks, though, since I need to build a AA harness locking mechanism and finish up my turbo packaging to get that kind of power.

The rims are perfect but the tires I ordered from RC mart the 15 degrees dont quite fit the whole rim, thats the bad thing but the good thing is they give a whole lot of traction super soft. I still will be shopping for more tires :( .

That's because they gave you wheels that are MR02 width. Your wider wheels are 11mm wide, versus your fronts, which are roughly 8.5mm wide. Go to some place such as RC Mart and order a set of Mini-Z wide tires, and that'll fit.

Edit: Also, you might wanna head over to MZR and pick up 9.5mm front tires, as they fill up the rim better and give you a better contact patch.

viperdout 05-01-2005 02:44 PM

Jon.jon, really off-topic, but your email and PM buttons don't work, and I was wondering which parts did you need to upgrade for your Emaxx on one BL motor. Email me at viperdout@gmail.com or AIM at viperdout. I hate making senseless posts like that but it's the only thing that works.

Murdoch 06-05-2006 05:26 PM

If you guys still are going to get GPM parts, I'd like a bunch in silver and purple.
