So finaly some worthy take aparts WOOO HOOOO. now i have to buy some modding parts various assortments of resistors capacitors and the like. What i really need is a bread board and a solder sucker and a....... well lets just say the list goes on. time to spend some christmas money.

C_CRX 01-03-2003 01:36 AM

I hear that. More stuff to buy for this hobby all the time it seems!

BTW, love the sig. Got a good laugh out of it! Reminded me of my programming days..

dabigpig 01-03-2003 01:58 AM

There is nothing wrong with buying stuff for this hobby because they are small and relitively inexpensive. A pack of 100 assorted resistors $1.50 i may be over exajerating a little but u know what i mean. you walk out of Radio Shack with 3 years supply of small electronics and you only spent $20.00 all together. Ok more exagerating again but u understand.

you probably learned to program on the commodore 64 or something like that i know i did and i am 16 so now i am into visual basic because it just makes sense.

OMG found a picture of the old C64 exactly like mine

hmmm C_CRX, what did you use for the lube? was it solid grease, or a more oily kinda liquid grease?

dabigpig 01-03-2003 11:57 PM

yippie im in red deer tomorrow so i can pick up some clones to test muahahahaha

C_CRX 01-04-2003 03:47 AM

Pie - The grease I used was an oily grease with a needle point end. Any store that sells professional slot car stuff should have it. My brand of choice is PARMA International. It made a definite improvement in my noise!! I strongly don't suggest WD40 or any canned stuff. Buy the stuff meant for plastic and gears (our use that ghaphite stuff I've heard of). HTH

dabigpig - I don't mind the money, I have way more than enough to support this hobby among others. Nothing else to spent money on than toys (real cars, RCs, booze, women, TVs, etc...) and my few small debts. I'm actually excited about going to buy more stuff tomorrow at RS! Modding is 95% of my attraction to these cars.

Ended up going out tonight and getting drunk with the people from work so no time to look for KIT Racers today. Will definitly look tomorrow (believe I saw them at Walmart for $10.88 the other day when I picked up my clones.) Going to try Toys R Us, London Drugs, Walmart south and Zellers tomorrow for the best price for them. I'm hoping under $10!

Nah, I didn't learn to program till a few years ago. Basically did a few programs for my graphing calc and messed with various codes for PC apps. Did a stupid mistake and tried for my bachelor of programming (computing science as they call it) in College but hated it so much I've barely touched code since (it was too boring at that level). Definitly not something I want to do for a living. But at least I know the basics and can do all converting by hand if need be.

Hows a goin guys? Anyone in or around the calgary area, where can you buy a NiMh battery from for our cars? I know there are lots of us sites but i was looking for either a store in calgary or a canadian web site.

Thanks!

I live in Japan right now, until april, then i will be returning to my home town, Barrhead Alberta, (about 1 hour from Edmonton)
I go into Edmonton probably at least once a week,
I hope to bring as much original japanese Bit accessories as possible back to canada,

then off to West Ed Hobby shop, heh

dieselboy 01-04-2003 04:22 PM

my finding on local shops..

Went to a few local Red Deer stores (national chain stores) and found out some things..

Radio Shack - Went to the 2 Radio Shacks in town. One had 2-3 Cyclona clones behind the register but they appeared to be in bad shape. Other store had nothing. No rare-earth magnets either anywhere. They even did a part # search and said those aren't available in Canada.

London Drugs - Sucks! They had nothing there. No KIT racers, no clones, no nothing.

Super Store - Again, nothing. :(

Zellers - No clones but I did see some KIT racers but the price was over my $10 limit. Their toy section also appeared to be a total mess!

Toys R Us - no clones but I did see a lots of KIT Racers. Only problem is, with their $17.xxcdn price tag, they are a total scam! No wonder they had so many... ;)

Walmart - by far the best I've found locally. The one on the South end of town had both ThunderFighters and a clone called Titor or something like that, but NO KIT racers there. The one on the North end had only the ThunderFighters. I also could only find a single KIT racer there (Energi). Not the best but with the $9.92cdn price tag, I couldn't say no! Hoping that within the next week or 2 they will have some RPM/MPH kits in. Will definitly buy some!

Hope that helps anyone!

dieselboy - I have a great suggestion for you. I suggest going to your local Walmart and trying to find an RPM or MPH (hear the tires with the RPM are better) Hot Wheels KIT Racing car and buying one or more of those. It will come with a real Tomy brand faster 2.6 engine (slalom/energi's only come with 2.2. It also comes with a spare battery, heat sink and a few other small useful parts.) Well worth the $9.92 my Walmart charges for them! Then you can do a 2cell battery mod, giving you the power/battery life you want, and a bigger engine. If you still only want NiMH battery, I know of a few places in Calgary you could call and see... HTH

pie i live in edmonton! comix hobby is also in Kingsway Garden Mall. Anyway, that store is excellent, I think the only place in edmonton that has bit char-g's

dabigpig 01-04-2003 09:39 PM

Today i was also at both radio shacks not looking for clones but i do agree they have nothing i like the one in Olds for electronics they have lots there usually. <looks in Bible (2003 Radio Shack Annual Catalogue) flips to page 210 and sees magnets> ok there are Ceramic magnets they are 9.6mm x 22mm x 47mm $4.99 part number 6408011, Plastalloy magnets 6.3mm x 25.4mm x 76.2mm $3.99 part number 6408012, then there is two more rounds but they are 13mm for $0.45 and a 25mm for $0.46 and has a hole in the middle the last two probably arn't them.

I was also at zellers saw nothing too messy to give a damn

Ate at louies sub had a very tasty BLT (but I prefer Subway)

went to the wally mart on the south end saw the clones didn't notice the kits oh well they are not high on my priority list yet.

went to toysRus and didn't want to take out a loan so i left.

Who knows C_CRX i may have seen you somewhere, Hell i could phone you and it wouldn't even be long distance LOL (scarry thought)

What i mean is that there are alot more expensive hobbys than this that are less fun in my eyes (I could be collecting those gold egg things i can't remember the names of them)

oh ya do you think that the sewing machine grease would work? just a thought because i seem to remember seeing lots downstairs for some reason

(Did I miss anything?)

C_CRX 01-04-2003 10:38 PM

Do you happen to know the size of magnets these things need? If you find out I think I can order some in bulk and probably float a few your way, if you want.

Well, if you saw a tired, un-shaven guy in a red hat, it was probably me.

My other hobbies are somewhat expensive. Nowhere near as bad as Faberger (sp?) eggs or anything. This hobby is fun. Like I said before, I enjoy the tuning and custom fabricating for these little 'toys' way more than actually running them.

Did you buy any clones? Thoughts?
