catman25, I think there is a fix for dogbone popping-out; IRC, can you remind me what it is?

You shouldn't charge the pack while it's still in the car, unless you pull the battery springs first. It's better to charge outside the car anyway, so the battery has more air around it to cool.

I'll try to get the full parts list added to the Shop ASAP so you can see what's possible!

Tiny...how do i hook up my charger? I don't want to fry my new battery pack!

I have the multi-rate charger set to do a peak charge at 1.0A for the NiMH batteries. I also have the alligator clips on the charging unit.

My planned thoughts are:
1. Remove the battery pack (to make things easy and safe).
2. Hook the positive charger lead to the positive side of the battery with the black wire soldered on.
3. Hook the negative charger lead to the negative side of the battery with the other end of the black wire connected.

Is this right? (A photo would be a huge help at this point!!)

Also Tiny...how much for the 6 cell pack and a 2wd motor? Lead time on you getting and shipping these out? And how would I order them? Email me!

binaryterror, give me a few minutes and I'll take pics of my setup; do you have a soldering iron?

The 6-cell and 2WD are In Stock - I'll make sure that they are added to the Shop today! :)

The best way is to add tabs to your pack so that you can easily clip on alligator tabs:

Alternately, you can use the chassis as a charging tray, though I strongly recommend you use the tabs instead. To use the chassis as a charging tray, first of all remove the + and - battery springs. Then, insert the charging leads in their place, and charge the pack!

GREAT!!!

I'll stop by the rat shack and grab some alligator clips, some wire and definately some better solder...also how easy is it to solder to a battery? Isn't it a bad idea to get the battery hot?

I got me a cheapo soldering iron...like $13 at Meijer's....you think it's ok?

Can't wait to get the 2wd motor and 6 cell pack (this way i can have 2 battery packs...even though they suck to change)

Not to be mean to TinyRC, but these stock bodies suck! But i think it'll make for a great practice hitting things body, then I'm off to the model store and getting some nice bodies!

By the way any Bit Charge racer reading this...give up on the BC's and get this thing...it is so cool and so fun!

tinyrc 11-19-2002 01:11 PM

binaryterror (and anyone else), if you specify in the Notes, we can peak charge your next pack so that it will be ready to run on arrival.

It's true that heat can damage the cell, but you should be okay, don't worry too much about it! Also, you may want to sand a patch on the cell to help the solder stick.

Let us know how the body search goes! :)

binaryterror 11-19-2002 01:29 PM

I know I shouldn't be listing another site...but in my body search i found these...

http://mini-zone.dinball.com/catalog...oducts_id=2025

They are meant for the Mini-Z, I wonder if they might fit on a Mini-X...anyone know off hand what the wheelbase of a Mini-z is compared to the Mini-X?

catman25 11-19-2002 09:43 PM

got problems tiny!!!every time i switch on the mini-x i get a loud adible tone..nopt really a sound but a hum..and when i reverse it glitches and the red led doesnt come on in foward ..if i set the esc. no sound, noglitch ,fast and red led in foward ..but everytime i turn it off and back on later i have to reset the esc..do i have to set it everytimne or is suttin not right ?

WOOHOO I fixed my battery charging problem (but i still can not solder on to the batteries...so i have to take out the batts remove the + and - wires to ESC then install my home made + and - wires for my charger put in the pack and charge on SLOW PEAK charge with 100mA and the fast charge is meant mainly for the 1/10th scale sub C batteries hence it not fully charging mine at all!)

This morning (after a 8 hour charging fest for the 5 cell) i got up expecting only to be upset more...turned it on and it ran for 20 minutes straight and still has massive juice. I actually had to stop playing to post this and to go to work...also let the 500 degree motor cool down...wow this motor gets freakishly hot...

I'm working on a fix to make the motor cool (similar to something ive seen on this forum, but definately more radical).

Catman25...i know your ESC setup everytime problem...that hum you hear is the motor, it is trying to turn. The best way to set this is do the ESC set up once...turn off and when it does the hum...turn the throttle/nuetral trim on the controller you have...worked wonders in my case! now i can go on/off like 30-100 times or more and still be ready to run...

So i think its not your ESC but you need to adjust the trim on the controller....i assume it should have this....as my POS Traxxas 27mhz has this and it used to cost $50 with servos back in 1991 when i bought it, and believe you me it certainly is no Futaba Mega Sport.
