Well, good thing or not, the Propulse idea sounds promising. But why a buggy body? Why not a production car body like a Mazda RX-7 or a Nissan 350Z or something? I still think the XMOD is more practical in the sense of space consumption. They take up less space because they're smaller. But you already knew that.

Seems like there are several trends happening right now. Large scale (1/8 and up) is the current fad for manufacturers, but I don't see that lasting long. 1/10-1/18 scale Buggys and MT's are more popular than ever and 1/24-1/32 scale cars that can drift are really popular now. I see the Mini-Z and similar products taking over this market. My biggest gripe with the whole industry is there is no standard as to what a mini and a micro are. I've seen 1/10-1/18 scale marketed as micro when in all actuallity it is probably the most common scale and really isn't micro in the hobby community. 1/24-1/28 are what I consider mini and 1/32-1/43 are micro-mini and 1/50-1/100 scale are what I consider micro. I've said this before, X-mods fill a gap in the r/c market. It's not quite hobby class, but it isn't quite toy quality either. Having the ability to upgrade a RTR r/c vehicle was something that we only dreamed of years ago. If you wanted an upgradable vehicle you had to buy expensive kits or pay someone to build/modify one for you and the upgrades available were expensive as well. I hope that RS continues with the X-mods and ZZ's and I welcome the new Propulse line. RS has brought us the intermediate level vehicles that help stimulate the interest needed to continue with this hobby. |
Hey all I don't know if this is really new, but these are listed as new products on the RS site.
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family This one seems like it may be something close to what all the RS employees have been saying, but I don't see upgrades available yet. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family This one is listed as new too, but the speed doesn't coincide with what RS employees have been talking about and no hop-ups available. Sorry if this is old news. If it is go ahead and delete this post. |
I believe those are just the typical large scale RC cars that Radioshack releases every year around fall/winter.

radio shack just came out with the new xmods. the titan and the scion(tc not sb thank god). no piccs of the scion yet but the titan looks pretty nice.
if they just came out with two new models that would probably drag out there exsistance for awhile.i think that even if they are getting discontinued it wont be imediataly or even befor christmas. |
Keith is correct, they are on sale on the RS website. Looks like we might have them for a bit longer.

if what you say is true then i need to figuire out something new to do in my spare time. i cant afford to buy a ProPulse starter kit. and im sure that for people who have invested a lot of money in to their xmods like i have are pretty bummed out. putting so much money into xmods just to have RS discontinue them really sucks. the Propulse does sound like a good idea, but i dont they should discontinue xmods just because they are coming out with a new line of Rc cars. having both out at the same time would be great. for the people interested in 1:10th scale cars there is the ProPulse, and for the ones that like 1:24th scale there are xmods. it works out for everybody.

First looks of the Truggy and Buggy at www.propulse.com
Enjoy!!! Sorry for the double post, but I wasn't sure that everyone would see it. |
they aren't what i thought they would be. as steelo described them they sounded like larger versions of the xmods. they seemed pretty cool from what he told us, but now that ive seen them i've lost all interest. are they replacing the xmods or are xmods still being continued?

i think there pretty nice performance wise. imo they look horrible but owel.i wouldnt buy one but for off roading i think they woul have some potential.

Radio Shack is great at shooting themselves in the foot. 1/10 scale will be a disaster. Its too big for indoors and RS won't build it for jumping. Real r/c companies have had to deal with this. RS will just drop them also after a while. When the xmods and ZZs are gone so is my interest in RS cars. Oh well!
|
they are 1/18th

Does Rs really think that they can compete with Losi and Associated? This I want to see.
|
well considering both the cars you mention are manufactured overseas (sometimes designed as well) versus in the old days when quality control was higher and everything was built and tested in the same facility. Where you had to build your kit and it used higher grade materials and metals. yes.
Anyhow, here is more information. |
As a matter of fact, I did totally rebuild both my Losi Mini T and my RC18T with carbon fibre and aluminum parts. So you are right. I also believe in doing everything myself and not parting it out. My class trashed my RC18T's front steering by accident but it wasn't their fault. A steering turnbuckle came loose because it wasn't properly checked. I should have done that myself also.
I hope that RS does well. I still feel that they jump around too much in products. |
