I think the highest the 1200mah can handle is 7 amps continous draw with short spikes to 9 amps, THAT'S PER CELL, though, so if you have 2s2p ( 2 series packs in parrallel with each other) you'll have 14 amps continous with spikes up to 18+ amps, more than enough for a 280 or 300 size motor,plus you'll have 8.4v to the motor.(if you really want to get crazy, a small transformer could step the voltage down even further to 6v and you'd have a TON of amps, probably around 25+)

The best cells bar-none are the lithium ion cylindricals that RobertByrd sells on his website. They are exactly the same size as AA and are 3.6V 670mAh rated. That power/volume density is unsurpassed. You need 6 AAA rechargeables to do what 2 of these cells do.

they weigh as much as 4 aaa, but put out almost twice the current @8.4v(4.2v per each cell ), better than the 3.6v 670mah aa's, plus you don't have to deform your body( normal aa batteries won't fit under the car without seriously streching the body out of whack, i've tried )

Actually, there is a problem with that statement... these things are DC. Transformers only work on AC circuits.

I just purchased 8 of these 3.6V at 1850mAh from ebay for only $32.00 including shipping. If you get any and need a charger. Find a cell phone charger but make sure it is for 3.6v and says "FOR Li-Ion Batteries Only". Rewire it to your battery holder and there you have it. 3.6V Li-Ion batteries and charger. These batteries are great. Last about an hour and gives a lot more power. Be sure to upgrade your fets and put a regulator in so you don't mess up your ESC.

Transformers can be used with DC circuits. Check out Digikey thay have a game kit like "Operation" but just one contact pole and handle. It runs on a 9V battery and when the handle touches the pole it shocks you. It uses a small step up tranformer. They sell these to High Schools for electronic class projects. I bought one when I was in High School.
