what did you use for the metal piece dr1zz? gonna try this, but i'm still not clear on why it would work...

It still doesn't make a lot of sense. If you open up the controller there is already a thin piece of meta attached to the antenna wire. That whole assembly then screws onto the base of the antenna. Just don't get what you're driving at.

ok u can do that with every type of wire just take any wire u have and rap it from the bottom of the intenna to the top and about 2.5 inces off the top the solution is b16 b24awgm :bdrop: :blift:

what?!?

i ripped apart a N cell battery holder, almost any metal will work, but these already had wires attached to em....cut the spring off, i guess....
im guessing since the antenna is so short, that this little extension makes a big difference........but it works so well, im not complaining.....

What you are doing is lengthening the feed wire going to the antenna, effectively lengthening the antenna itself.
I would wager that a piece of wire hanging off the end would probably give the same effect. That or simply using a longer telescoping antenna.

The closer you get to a quarter-wavelength of the frequency in question, the better it will do. (in theory)

Of course for 27Mhz, that is somewhere around a hundred inches or so!
Higher frequencies would have shorter antennas, of course.

That's one reason 27Mhz has limited range with these cars and 49 does so well.
It's less antenna length to compensate for.

The formulas for working out quarter-wave antennas are available at www.arrl.org (Amateur Radio Relay League)
It's also a great place to learn about amateur radio in general!
Tell 'em N2NLQ sent ya! ;)

It's cool to see you make the discovery!

On a different note...
I was going to bark further about the horrible, tragic mangling of the english language on these forums, but it won't really change anything, will it?
Just as long as you pick it up eventually. ;)

i fully understand the quarter wavelength principal, that is why i can't understand this mod actually doubling somebody's range...but i am always willing to give something a try...i figure the surface area of the metal plate could be helping in some way.

amen to the slaughter of the english language...lol...:D

I take the range doubling thing with a grain of salt too.
;)

dr1zz 06-19-2003 03:23 PM

try it, you might get your controller to play a song too.........:D

Oh br-udda!
You'd love to get me all worked up and spazzy over that one again wouldn't you? :p

I was thinking of that the other day. I wonder what became of all that?

One guess: Nothing.

i dont want to derail this thread, but can you give me the link to the ringtone thread? i like reading funny fighting post:D
