June 13, 2009: The Day I Blew Up Mini-ZRacer.com

Posted 06-13-2009 at 02:02 PM by arch2b
with a couple click of the mouse, i managed to toss mini-zracer into utter confusion this morning.

i got up relatively early today and decided it was the most opportune time to complete my forum reorganization. i had spent the better part of an hour shifting subforums around, creating new forums, removing some old ones. in a routine task of relocating posts from a subforum to be removed to an existing subforum, i selected an administrator tool option instead of a moderator tool option which i had always used before. in hindsight, stick with what i know works... while in the subforum, i selected all the posts within and then selected mass move vs. move threads. i followed the next couple click prompts only to realize i had just moved EVERY post EVER created to a single subforum. being that the creators of the software did not think it beneficial to include an undo or command tracking menu i knew right away that what i had done was impossible to undo immediately and the the notion of selectively relocating posts impossible. after cursing out my computer for my obvious error as if it had anything to do with it, i immediately sent the emergency email to the boss. now, i'm sure he had 100 things to do this morning and i'm sure was not exactly thrilled with the prospect of spending x amount of time reversing all the changes i had just completed including my colossal mistake.

so, by 10am i had clinched the booby prize for the year.

to quote a movie, with great power comes great responsibility. even spidey made mistakes though...
