Traction rolling? Try this.

Another quickie this week (the long articles will have to wait till my MR-03 arrives!), here's a quick tip/trick you can try if your race MR015 or 02 is traction rolling unexpectedly.

Recently I test drove several Mini-Z's and MRCG's just for fun, and noticed that some of the MR02's were on the very, very edge of traction rolling in high-speed sweepers, especially coming off the back straight. One way to counter this would be to add roll resistance (the MRCG and MRCG1.1 do this),...

Quick Fix: Mini-Z Side Body Clips

Posted 10-17-2009 at 05:10 AM by color0

This entry's going to be short as I'm busy with classes, but nonetheless...

One of the coolest things about Mini-Z is that the body mounting method is extremely quick and simple: hook the front clip in, push down on the chassis and that's it. The downside, though, is that sometimes those body mounts aren't assembled perfectly, leading to stuff like this:

Not only is this aesthetically...

Mini-Z Racing Surfaces Across the World

Posted 10-03-2009 at 06:06 PM by color0
Updated 03-08-2011 at 09:33 AM by color0
Since the introduction of the Mini-Z, well over half a million cars have been sold -- that's a lot of Mini-Z. And while many may serve out their lives as shelf queens or office toys, many are also actively raced, either at sanctioned events or informal gatherings between friends and acquaintances. But where and on what? Due to space constraints, cost constraints, materials availability, etc., Mini-Z tracks across the world have been constructed using many different surfaces. In this article, we'll...

Atomic World Cup Warm-Up Race Report

Posted 09-20-2009 at 04:24 AM by color0
Updated 03-08-2011 at 09:35 AM by color0
To be honest, I didn't have any other material to post this week, so allow me to slack a little and just write about what went down at the Atomic Warm-Up Race yesterday, Sept. 19.

Basic information: There were basically only three classes, all 2WD. Atomic Stock (Kyosho/Atomic parts only), Open Stock (any hop-ups), and Atomic Youth (Kyosho/Atomic parts only, must be 13 or under, I think). All classes used the superb Atomic USA Standard motor.

So starting last Thursday...

Anatomy of a Mini-Class Racer

Posted 09-08-2009 at 10:54 PM by color0

It definitely has been a while since I last wrote an article for this site. So to kick off the continuation of this blog, let's take a look at the short-wheelbase "fun" racing class known as the Mini, or 90mm, or SWB class.

Rules for this class vary from track to track, but the general idea behind it is to make some use of cars and bodies that normally would not be competitive. That means that the 86 and 90mm wheelbase cars come out to play, as well as the tall wagons and...
