Finally tracked the issue down to a failing wire in my serial connection (homemade cable using cat5 since that way I only needed 1 serial connector and didn't need to buy a serial cable).
I have the setup running but the steering is a bit twitchy so next I will see about hooking the dual rate pot up and using it to alter the steering output.
I've decided not to implement trims on the radio since you can calibrate in windows, but that leaves 2 pots (the trims) and 2 switches (the recessed servo reversing ones) to use. Any suggestions on what I could use the other parts for?
