OK, I've done a write-up and how-to for this project. You can either get to it through the site normally: Bit Cal-B (http://www.geocities.com/schoon8654/bitcalb/index.html)

...Or you can go directly to it if you don't want to see the rest of the site: Project 1 (http://www.geocities.com/schoon8654/bitcalb/charger.html)

Enjoy :D

schoon, what was your total cost in parts?

So long as you don't count the controller that I canibalized, the 3V Plug-in Adapter is really your biggest cost at about $15.

The rest of the components totaled under $10.

However, considering that an 8-pack of AA Batteries is about $7-8, it'll pay for itself in a few months.

I have a very similar idea that I have not executed yet.
I am going to put a battery holder inside a project box as you did, then give myself the option of charging from the batteries or hooking it up to my peak charger. I also want to be able to charge the batteries while they are inside the box.

I had plans for a timer, but I have basically scrapped the idea.
