Does anyone else have one of these Desktop Rover tanks (http://www.plantraco.com/cgi-bin/af/b.cgi/358) ? They are really fun just to drive around on your desk especially if you have lots of junk to conquer. I'm curious if anyone has two, as it's got a built-in laser tag game but I've never been able to try it since I only have one.

i saw some people do a lazer tag demo at a mall once.... it's pretty cool... and they demonstrated that small camera thing and made it go into an empty room....
anyways, laser tag was pretty cool.... seems like a real "war" :p u got two tanks chasing each other and the tank getting chased is trying to position itself to fire, but the other tank's hot on it's tail... looks fun, but i haven't tried it....

Yep, I have the cam too - but it's in a Mini-Z now!

Are you going to stock any tanks, and if so how much will they cost?

04-25-2002, 10:26 AM
Sure - if people are interested - how many people would be interested? We could certainly give a % discount off of the normal price.

If the price is right I would be interested.

I have the desktop rover too, found one at a great price!! But, it's the older model that doesn't have laser tag built in.

Tons of fun, I take it to Mini-Z practice at the LHS and drive over everyone's cars when they're working on them in the pits LOL

About how fast are they? I know it is not very fast but is it more than just a crawl?

Not very fast at all, they are geared for climbing rather than speed. A 1.0 BC-G will outrun them.

they sound verry cool!!! i want one how much are they?

They are $59.99 when you buy them direct (http://www.plantraco.com/cgi-bin/af/b.cgi/358). They are even more fun with 2 (laser tag!) or with the telecommander kit (PC control!).

That camera would be sweet, moveable spy cam.....

Did they say when that receiver was going to be available?....I could use that in my 1/87 scale table top truck trials truck...:)

akura2, the unit pictured is 72MHz :( but we're working with them to get a 75MHz version as it would be excellent for Tiny RCs. It's rated for 20A, and the FET is wide open for stacking, so it should work well!

Got my desktop rover last week. I only have one, but wanted to try the "battle-mode". So I tried all of my IR-remotes (tv, dvd,...) and "attacked" my rover and it worked! The roverīs been hit!

I try to design a little "battle-ground" with IR-detectors in place. My idea is, to "shoot" all detectors with the rover as fast as possible. That might be a lot of fun.

I just got two Rovers today, All together I paid $80 USD for them (including shipping) not a bad price for 2.

The lazer tag on them is fun, I just can't put them down. I turned my dinning room into a war zone with ramps going from the ground to chairs and tables and all kinds of boxes to climb on.

such fun such fun.

Now I need to get a few of those cameras. the cheapest I've seen them is $109 + shipping, has anyone found them cheaper?

$109.00 is a great price fro such a great camera:D

Itīs the remote-control (RAV 171) of my amplifier (Yamaha DSP A595). Button Nr. 1 works!

Tried to switch off TV with the Rover, but no reaction :D

Hey Cool!! Number 1 does work. I used a universal remote and it works too. It is an X10 6 in 1 remote. I used the code for a Yamaha CD player and kaboom. I would guess any universal remote would do the same.

How cool! Time to start disassembling old remotes and creating some anti-tank guns!!! :D

Sounds like a ton of fun but the price of the camera is a little steep and the tank usues what kind of batteries?I hope they're rechargeable whatever they are. After owning a Mini-z I spent 100 bucks on batteries a month and alot more on parts, hehe;)

12-30-2002, 06:32 PM
nope, batteries aren't rechargable
these are the batteries, http://www.vss-electronics.com/vss-electronics/123-1-sanyo.html
and the cheapest place for them too
