In keeping with my previous post concerning standards, here's a little something I cooked up: 1m x 1m modular track sections.
All the widths are 20cm, but ID of the curves isn't exactly "regulation."
Module 1 is the Start/Finish and Pits:

Module 2 is the "connector" if you want to make an extra-long track:

Module 3 can either be the ending for either Module 1 or Module 2:

Module 4 has the same properties as Module 3.
Out of these, you can make 2 short and 2 long tracks - a total of 4 variations.

Wow schoon, what a cool idea! Could you put the images together in a few of the configurations, shrink them, and post them, to give us an idea of what they yeild when combined?

OK. Here's a simple combo with 2 modules:

...and a longer track with 3 modules:

Cool! So do you think you'll go ahead and make some prototype modules so you can test them out for real?

Yup - I think I'll hit the lumber lard later this morning. I find that 1/2 in. ply is too heavy and can still warp. However, 1/4 in. ply (A-C or A-D grade), backed by 1 x 2 (like a canvas or picture frame) is rock-solid and reasonably light.
I'm thinking about trying my hand at a banked turn, but I'll have to think more about that...
