hello, im pretty new here but i was wondering how much of a differance it would make to change from AAA to AA batteries
thoughts and suggestions would be greatly apperciated

not much most likely because they supply the same voltage just different sizes and capacities

would it make much of a differance if you ran 4 AAA and 1 AA batteries?

Maybe this will help make sense of it all....

NiMh AAA = 1.2 Volt - 600 MA
NiMh AA = 1.2 Volt - 2100 MA

4 x AAA = 4.8 Volt Total
4 x AA = 4.8 Volt Total
The above battery stats are based on NiMh batteries that I have in front of me, and are not the same as NiCad, or even Alkaline Batteries.

Advntages of AA over AAA
You are looking at 3.5 times longer run time over AAA.

The Advantages of AAA over AA
AAA Batteries weigh less than AA Batteries.
AAA Batteries are smaller than AA Batteries.

I am not sure if 4 AA batteries will fit, however it is something to look into. However given the small size of the cars, I doubt that you will be able to fit 4 AA batteries and still be able to put the body on it.

I hope that this helps.

dont forget, aaa and aa batteries have different discharge rates. the aa battery will put out the same volt as the aaa but it put out a higher amp than the aaa will. that eguals more power.

i have ran my rs4 micro on aaa's and aa's
the aaa will stutter gettin up to speed but the aa will get to speed with no prob. the same is true with my minix. i had to add a punch cap to prevent the aaa from hurtin my launch

so it would be okay if i had 4 AAA's and 1 AA as my 5th cell or would i be better off trying to cram 4 or 5 AA's in my x mod?

if you want to add a cell, just add an aaa, adding 1 aa wont do much with your setup because you wont be using all aa. if you use all aa, then your care will be heavy. the reason i was havin a problem is because i was using an esc made for aa cells or larger in both cases.

It will not give you an advantage over an extra AAA. The only difference having an extra AA would be extra weight.

thanks for your help

or you could just replace those 4 AAAs with 2 AAs and have longer runtimes/ higher current output with minimal weight gain.

Given it might be hard to fit 2 AAs in the chassis without some work though.

2aa's is only 3volts. that thing will crawl! that is 3volts if they are alk's if they are nimh's then thats only 2.4volts at best

AAA - 1.5 Volt
AA - 1.5 Volt

AAA * 4 = 6 Volts
AA * 2 = 3 Volts

You would not get longer run tumes with only 2 AA's, you would get less than 1/2 the speed. (If the car moves at all)

I think your math is a little off.

lol

but see im buying this energizer thing that charges in 30minutes and it comes w/ 4 AA's free and ill buy like 8AAA rechargeables. thats y i wanted 2 no if haveing an AA as a 5th cell would b ok

thanks fer all the input btw

It will work Both AA and AAA rechargame batteries are 1.2 volts. So if you have 4 of either size you end up with 4.8 volts. So if you add another 1.2 volt battery of either size you will end up with 6 volts. And you can mix 1 AA with 4 AAA, just keep in mind you can only charge AA with AA, and AAA with AAA. Do NOT mix them when charging. However because they are rechargable batteries, you will want to keep an eye on the batteries incase they start to get warm.

Doh!

This is case in point why I should stop posting so late at night :P
