Would bearings from the Mni-Z fit in our Xmods? The PN Racing bearings are only ~$10 where as the Xmods bearins are $20...

So far these 3x6x2 bearings (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXD099&P=7) are the best bearings I have found for the Xmods that are sealed. They cost more for a set but should last much longer.I plan on just using the RS bearings untill they fail just to see how much I can get out of them.

you need 14 3x6x2 bearings for the Xmod

If you have the RS bearings already, use them until one of them seizes or something, then get the better sealed ones. I'd keep a set of the RS bearings around tho, just in case you go to one of the races that are supposed to come up next summer.

One of the first things I plan to buy is the bearing kit, but I must admit I was surprised they were open races. Open bearings make for the fastest setup but dust and dirt will slow them right down. I plan to use some of my 1/10-scale RC racing tricks on the XMOD bearings. This is what I'm going to do:
1) soak them for about an hour in the basic STP fuel injector cleaner. This will dissolve all the grease really well. I don't in any way, shape, or form recommend anyone using this stuff as it is a very strong chemical solvent.
2) next, I'll spray them with some RC motor spray and let them sit and dry for the rest of the day.
3) I'll then spin test each one and reclean any that need it.
4) last, instead of using a wet lube like light oil, I'll give them a very light dusty of a fine dry lube such as graphite powder.

I won't use Simple Green or any other simular product as they conatin a huge amount of water and instead of dissolving grease they actually gum things up in things like bearings.
